Max connections — a feature, not a limitation
Most hosts write "unlimited" — and then shut your account down once you cross five parallel sessions. We're transparent.
Every time you open email on a phone, laptop, Outlook, Webmail or a third device, you open one IMAP/POP3 session. Modern clients keep that session open for push notifications (so mail arrives in a second instead of five minutes). Max connections = how many such simultaneously open sessions are allowed per mailbox.
The limit prevents two things: (1) stolen credentials — an attacker can't connect 100 clients to your account unnoticed; (2) resource abuse — one badly configured client opening 500 sessions can slow down the whole server. A transparent limit means you know what you're getting.
